Image
Bling is so excited to share that the second book in her children's book series is available.  To purchase, go to her website:    adogbling.com/store A glance outside the window gives our canine heroine, Bling, a perplexing question.  Did she see a tail?  A squirrel's she thinks.  Fluffy and puffy, then gone in a wink.   Set out to seek assistance from a unique blend of flying, slimy, digging and hooved friends, Bling is relentless in achieving her goal of finding that tail.  Though what she finds is not at all what she expected. What does she do with the homeless critter with the fluffy puffy tail? No child will be disappointed as Bling guides them in curiosity, discovery, and an introduction to empathy through colorful realistic illustrations and rhyme.

It is so easy to assume!

Image
We had a great lesson in ASSUMING today.    My human mom found something wet all over her art studio. She thought my doggie mom, Monet, had an accident. Mommy Monet is 14 1/2 years old and sometimes does have accidents.) Thankfully, it was something else. What a lesson to learn not to assume until you know the truth. Click on the video below to see what really happened! https://youtu.be/ewzUvdJd9-Q Much love, Bling #adogbling

Wow - snow is EVERYWHERE.  We think we received 8 inches of snow last night while we were sleeping.  It is beautiful. https://youtu.be/wHKe0RdJBVE After it warms up a little, I get to go outside and play in it - woo hoo!!

It is SNOWING - WOO HOO

Bling and Bliss thankful for the dog show

Image
We are so thankful for being able to head out of town and go to the dog show in Houston.   The little things, such as attending a dog show, we had taken for granted and we now see through clearer eyes. Bliss and Bling I appreciate the time the show committees have taken during these tumultuous times to organize the shows.   I appreciate the judges who, under adverse conditions, have taken on judging assignments.  Let's not overlook the American Kennel Club whose staff records all the results.  In the midst of the current crazy life swirling around us, we are all taking measures to remain safe and keep others around us safe.   It has been so much fun to get our puppy, Bliss, out and teach her the fun of dog showing.   Bling, who is now 8 years old, was entered as a veteran.   We don't want her to feel overshadowed by the pup.   So, se decided to enter her in the show too.  Bling couldn't wait to get on the g...

Bling wins at the Tulsa Show

Image
Hi Friends, I went to a dog show in Tulsa and had a wonderful time!   I won a ribbon.   Dog shows are a lot of fun.   I am a team with my mom.   We do this together.   Being a team is what we both love the most about dog shows.   Long, long ago my mom was told we would lose more at the dog show than we would win.  They went on to say we would win enough to keep coming back. We learn something when we lose at the dog show.  We learn the joy of winning.  If we won all the time, winning would no longer be so special.   When we go to the dog show, we try really hard to win knowing we may not.   It is not about winning.   It is about giving 100% of our efforts.  It is about trying our very best.  If we win, then we have a very special day.   If we don't win, we know we really tried and there will be another dog show. At this show, we won second place for the girl...

Bling's weekly book review: Big Red - Based on the Walt Disney Motion Picture

Image
Hi friends, This week's book review is on my favorite book of all times.  The name of the book is Big Red.  Big Red is an Irish Setter - just like me.  The original movie, Big Red, was released by Walt Disney Motion Pictures in 1962.   Gosh, that was a long time ago.  If you look at my photo, I have an original movie poster behind me. I also have the children's book.   The copy of the book I have is for children and was adapted by Kathleen N. Daly.  The illustrations were created by Mel Crawford. The original book was a novel written in 1945 by an American author named Jim Kjelgaard In the story adapted for the movie (and in my children's book), Big Red is a show dog who gets lost on the way to a dog show.  A boy named Rene, who helps take care of Big Red, is heart broken over the loss of the red dog he loves so much.   He has to do something to help find Big Red.   I've had something like this happen before....

Bling is multi-tasking

Image
We had a great time last weekend at the Dallas shows - four days of shows over the 4th of July weekend.   Bling came home every day with a ribbon. She loves to show - loves to have treats....but, her favorite thing is absolutely to look for squirrels. Bling definitely knows how to multi-task.   She can pose with her ribbons and look for squirrels all at the same time.  Fortunately for me, no squirrels showed up while taking photos!

Being an owner handler has moments that just keeps us laughing

Image
Bling has always had a free and happy spirit - typical for Irish Setters.  Some call it "rollicking".   To me, she is just plain and simple... a happy dog. Here she is when she was a year old.  In an ideal scenario - all four feet are pretty close to the ground. Going to a dog show is full of surprises when I have Bling in the ring.  And I will admit, at this time though a seasoned show dog, she still leaps for joy at times in the ring.  She keeps me laughing. Someone asked me recently if I'll be getting a new puppy to show anytime soon.   While we all love puppies, I think Bling and her small family of red dogs are all we need.   As long as Bling is having fun in the ring, we will continue to show.  She knows when I am packing to go to a show and she can't get in the vehicle quickly enough.  Those who know Bling, know she understands the shows are a place where TREATS are guaranteed.  And Bling LOVES her treats....

Dog shows are great fun.

Image
Sometimes people ask my human mom why we go to dog shows.   Well, it is a little bit of a long story. When my mom was a little girl she remembered her grandparents talking about a dog show.   She remembered the brushes and a grooming table. Years later, my mom purchased an Irish Setter puppy and was told it was a show puppy but she didn't have to show it.   She thought, why not try showing the puppy?   It would be a way to honor her grandparents who had passed away many years ago.  Here is a photo of her grandmother and her Kerry Blue Terriers. She started showing the puppy.  He became a champion and was only shown by her.   They had a lot of fun and he was given lots of TREATS!   To her, showing her dog the same as going to the park, going on a walk or to the beach.  It was a fun way to spend time with her dog.  It was a great way to make new friends.   As the years went by, she...
