Bling's weekly book review: Charlie Goes to the Doctor - starring Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond

Image
Hi Friends, Last week I reviewed another story from the Adventures of Charlie the Ranch Dog (written by Ree Drummond).  Since we have that book out and are reading it at my house, I thought we could review another story from the book.  This story is called Charlie Goes to the Doctor.  Yikes!   Going to the doctor can be frightening.   It is a good subject to talk about!    I gathered the younger pets in the family to read about doctors together.  Smudge, my cat is a year old and Bliss, the pup, is 10 months old.  They will be going to the doctor again soon and it is important for them to not fear doctor visits. In the story, Charlie wakes up one morning not feeling well.  Charlie's mom is very worried and decides to take Charlie to the dog doctor, a veterinarian, right away.   Once they arrive at the doctors, Charlie becomes afraid.   While in the waiting room, Charlie meets a puppy named Hicko...

Bling's weekly book review: Charlie's New Friend by Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman

Hi Friends, Many of you know how much I LOVE "Charlie The Ranch Dog" books by Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman).   Charlie lives on a real ranch and is a real dog -  just like me.   I pretend to be a ranch dog.  Really, our property is a hobby farm.  A hobby farm is bigger than a regular property, but not as big as a ranch.  I have chickens just like Charlie. This story about Charlie is titled "Charlie's New Friend".   In the story, Charlie wakes up and heads to the kitchen for breakfast.  He is very surprised to find his bowl empty.   He goes outside to find his mom and see what is happening.   Here is one of my favorite parts - once outside he sees a SQUIRREL .  He chased the squirrel up a tree.  Someday, I want to do that too!   My squirrels are too fast and are always in the trees by the time I get outside.  Yikes, back to our story.   Charlie passes the garden and disc...

Blings Book Review - Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon

Hi Friends, It has been so hot outside lately - gosh!   We sure know it is summer time.  I thought it would be fun to review a book that takes place in the SNOW.    This book really touched my heart.  The star of the book is a young penguin named "Penguin."  Penguin was a bit lonely in the beginning of the story.  He came across something he hadn't seen before.   SHHHHH - it was a pine cone but Penguin didn't know what a pine cone was.   Penguin decided to play with his new "friend."   It was pretty cold outside and Penguin thought  Pinecone needed a scarf, so he made the Pinecone one.    Making the scarf shows me that Penguin wants to do things for others.   It is really important that we do things for others.   We need to be kind to everyone.   Okay, back to our story! One day Penguin's grandfather told him that Pinecone should not live there, but should ...

Bling's Weekly Children's Book Review: Mice and Beans by Pam Munoz Ryan and Illustrated by Joe Cepeda

Hi friends, We have a really fun book to review this week.  The name of the book is Mice and Beans.   I bet you thought I was going to say Rice and Beans - which I LOVE to eat.  Yum.   Nope, this is Mice and Beans.   The book was written by the talented story teller, Pam Munoz Ryan.  The adorable illustrations were created by Joe Cepeda.  On to our review! How many of you are thinking the book is about food?  Well, it kind of is.   More importantly, the book is about kindness and doing things for others.   There is a little girl named Catalina and her grandmother is planning a birthday for her.  The birthday is really important.  Actually, every birthday is important - don't you think so!   Catalina's grandmother knows a birthday party is a time for family and friends to spend time together.   Life gets so busy at times that we forget to spend time with our families. ...

Bling's weekly book review: Big Red - Based on the Walt Disney Motion Picture

Image
Hi friends, This week's book review is on my favorite book of all times.  The name of the book is Big Red.  Big Red is an Irish Setter - just like me.  The original movie, Big Red, was released by Walt Disney Motion Pictures in 1962.   Gosh, that was a long time ago.  If you look at my photo, I have an original movie poster behind me. I also have the children's book.   The copy of the book I have is for children and was adapted by Kathleen N. Daly.  The illustrations were created by Mel Crawford. The original book was a novel written in 1945 by an American author named Jim Kjelgaard In the story adapted for the movie (and in my children's book), Big Red is a show dog who gets lost on the way to a dog show.  A boy named Rene, who helps take care of Big Red, is heart broken over the loss of the red dog he loves so much.   He has to do something to help find Big Red.   I've had something like this happen before....
