Bling visits a school

Bling and I had an amazing day yesterday. We were guests at a private school and read our book to 100 students – kindergarten through 2nd grade.

The children were amazing listeners and loved Bling’s children’s picture book, No Ghoulish Green Monsters Here. I introduced Bling, my Irish Setter, and the kids asked if Bling knew any tricks. Ha ha – of course she did! I talked to them about how we train dogs and brought a clicker hoping we would be able to have time to discuss training. We went through all her tricks and they wanted to see her stand. I asked her to step out into a beautiful show stack. No, that is not standing I found out. They meant standing like a poodle on her hind legs. So, I tapped my chest and Bling immediately responded with putting her paws on my chest and licking my face. The kids erupted with clapping and laughter. Of course I couldn’t tell them that was no trick, that all Irish Setters love to stand on their humans and give kisses. I am so extremely proud of Bling. She was such a great ambassador of not only our breed, but of the human bond between dog and person.
